Tivis surged past the previously undefeated Amadevil in midstretch to win the $75,000 First Lady S. at Mahoning Valley on Saturday, the second stakes win of the year for the 3-year-old daughter of Tale of Ekati.
Tivis, a Hillburn Racing Stable LLC homebred, won the six-furlong contest by 1 ½-lengths. She was very wide on the backstretch and around the turn, yet still made up ground around the bend. Amadevil had the lead by a half-length with a furlong to go, but Tivis had all the momentum and pulled away late to finish up in 1:11.21 on a fast track.
Tivis has made 11 starts in her career, all this year, and earned $170,775. She is out of the Pulpit mare Preseil’s Pulpit and is a half-sister to stakes winner Out for Fun.
Tivis is one of Tale of Ekati’s more than 30 lifetime stakes winners. This year his stakes horses include Grade 1 runner-up Quinta Nota and Indiana Derby (G2) second-place finisher Sermononthemount. Tale of Ekati will stand the 2022 season at Darby Dan for $5,000 S&N.
